In winter, the Canary Islands

Forget coats, gloves and scarves. If you want to enjoy good weather and the beach in the middle of winter, then head for the Canary Islands. Its year-round warm climate means you can’t go wrong.

Seven islands washed by the Atlantic Ocean. Each and every one is a completely different world, packed with contrasts and possibilities. The Canary Islands offer almost 1,500 kilometres of coastline, with one predominant feature: variety. Here you will find so many options that the most difficult thing will be to decide where to enjoy the warm, sunny weather.

There are numerous different alternatives available each day: sailing, water skiing, kayaking, surfing, water bikes… Not forgetting that the Canary Islands are one of the best places in the world for windsurfing; and there are things to see under the water too: scuba diving enthusiasts will have a wonderful experience exploring the unique volcanic seascapes of the ocean floor. Don’t think twice - if you are considering a holiday this winter, then the Canary Islands are the perfect option.

Playa del Inglés (Spanish for “Englishman’s Beach”) is a town in the south coast of the island of Gran Canaria. Playa del Inglés is part of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. It has a nice long beach made of tall sand dunes that come from the Sahara desert, and is connected with other beach towns including San Agustín and Maspalomas in the touristic centre of the island. The gay area is in the Yumbo Shopping Center in the town of Playa del Inglés at the southernmost point of Gran Canaria.

It’s not so much a beach as a piece of desert 8 kms long by 3 kms wide with 4 meter high sand dunes!

To get there take a taxi to Plaza del Faro then walk east until you come to ‘Spot No. 7′ Alternatively, start at the Riu Palace Hotel and

follow the boys. Apparently there are two ‘Spot No. 7’s’, so make sure you’re at the right one.
