Lack of adoption of the assessments

Recognized by The Oregonian as one of the state’s top workplaces from 2014 through 2016, Consolidated Supply is just as committed to taking care of its employees as it is to serving its customers. A big part of that commitment is hiring great people.

To accomplish this, Consolidated Supply Co’s human resource team was looking for an assessment that would offer shorter, easier-to-read reports. “The reports we received from our previous tool were long and took forever to decipher,” said Human Resources Generalist, Amanda Lapato. “We had doubts as to whether many of our hiring managers bothered to do anything more than just scan them.”

Additionally, the HR team wanted to standardize the timing of the assessment. Some hiring managers used it early in the process, while others administered it right before extending an offer. Lastly, candidate information was scattered across several parts of the company’s server, making it difficult to find information.


Integration with an applicant tracking system

The team saw an opportunity to introduce a new Applicant Tracking System (ATS) called Taleo that would allow them to keep all applicant information in a central location. Further, they would administer the HighMatch between the screening and second interview of a candidate.

In order to fully merge the two processes together, Consolidated Supply Company wanted to integrate HighMatch with their new ATS. HighMatch’s technical team worked with Consolidated Supply to link the two systems.


A better hiring process and lower turnover

Consolidated Supply’s new process allowed them to interview and make offers quickly. The HR department noted managers were taking a more methodical approach to selecting candidates and no longer skipped the assessment step because they found the reports too daunting.

The HighMatch reports were well received. The Job Fit rating made it clear whether a candidate possessed the traits needed to succeed. Managers appreciated how the results described both job matches and mismatches.

They also liked how the interview guides helped navigate conversations to assess risk factors. Combining more insightful reports with actionable interview guides helped them hire better quality employees.
